Article: Modeling Jonathan Altfeld's Modeling Strategies

I've often been asked about my own model for Modeling, or a model for decision strategy elicitation (or knowledge acquisition). I've received glowing references with respect to my "Expert Systems" or "Artificial Intelligence" background before getting into NLP. These fields helped me to develop working, financially viable knowledge acquisition & cognitive modeling skills.

The Architecture of Awe - NLP article

September 3, 2004.

I must begin by thanking a friend from the UK (Adam Sargant) for bringing a BBC radio program on the same named topic to my attention recently!

Since NLP is the study of the structure of human subjectivity, or rather -- the study of subjective excellence -- anything that helps us to more rapidly learn how to do 'what works best' is central to the pursuit of NLP. Applying these skills in areas -Not- considered to be the use of NLP is also still central to the purpose behind NLP (modeling excellence!).

Indirect State Elicitation & NLP Anchoring in Business Meetings - Article

I get a lot of requests for examples & ideas as to how people can make practical use of NLP in business, and in particular one context comes up over & over again. The business meeting!

Ah yes, the meetings we love to hate...

I always like to ask:

"Do you mean meetings where people get things done?
Or do you mean meetings people schedule,
in order to schedule other meetings?"

Efficiency - A Coveted Stuck-State. Become more Efficient with NLP

Efficiency is a kind of word called a Nominalization, which freezes the active process of becoming more efficient into a static mental representation. So actually using the word EFFICIENCY makes it difficult to be EFFICIENT! So don't move towards Efficiency. Instead, behave more efficientLY.

We all want to work more efficiently, right? Be more productive, in less time. That's a lofty outcome, isn't it? Or not? Are you always more productive, in less time?

The Sound of Music, and the Music of Sound

Can you describe your life history through a soundtrack? Or at least reflect specific periods or events in your life through a series of individual songs, CDs, play lists, or musical pieces? Most of us growing up in Western cultures who have had any exposure to pop culture entertainment... certainly can.

It's Pure FUN to Learn & Use NLP

I've been reviewing my website, and my newsletters, over a period of time... and it's become laughably obvious that I sound way too serious online sometimes.

Oh, I do take the quality of my work and my business presence seriously, but I don't take life too seriously, and I don't take myself too seriously either. Life's too short for that, and by contrast to how it might seem, I tend to bring more than a few rays of sunshine and laughter and fun to just about any and every pursuit or situation. NLP is fun!

Every once in a while I review some of the posts I've made to various mailing lists, and upon re-reading them I decide they're good enough for a wider audience.

Frequently I'm asked the most basic NLP question, and not only from people completely new to NLP, but also from practitioners and beyond.
