Jonathan Altfeld

      Jonathan Altfeld founded the Mastery InSight Institute in 1997 after another highly successful career as a senior consultant to Fortune 500 companies. Jonathan's expertise was in the Artificial Intelligence field, specifically doing Knowledge Engineering, which is surprisingly similar to NLP modeling. Since then, Jonathan built the Mastery InSight Institute from the ground up, and has traveled all around the globe since 1997 delivering mostly short applied-NLP courses. He's become known amongst his students as someone who cleans up some other trainers' less-than-complete/sufficient training efforts.

      Jonathan's NLP training style exudes the extensive experience that he has gained through extensive work/play, diligence, a love for the material, and personal evidence of how it helps each of us improve our lives and reach for what we want more effectively.       One of the reasons that SO many students are coming out of their NLP Practitioner Training or NLP Master Practitioner courses with such poor skills, is that over the past 2 decades, competition in the field of NLP has driven NLP certification courses shorter & shorter, cheaper & cheaper, and changed NLP Practitioner courses from small mentoring groups into large "shows". Jonathan's view is that if there are more than 30 students in any NLP training room, you've absolutely LOST any hope of getting good at NLP, because the feedback loops between students and trainers degrades too much. 20 students per trainer is far better. 10 students per trainer is a virtual gift. Jonathan keeps ALL of his class sizes small.

      Another reason so much training you can acquire "out there" is so poor, is that most consumers (that means you) can't tell the difference between world-class training, and crap training. Fact is, some of the most successful trainers have very flashy websites, and attract you with their money. Their websites LOOK world-class, so they must be, right? Wrong. The flashier the site, the more of a "show" they're putting on, and the more they're relying on your attraction to THEIR SUCCESS, not their training skills for YOUR SUCCESS. They're presenters, not trainers. Presenters are great at building hope and desire, but not at transferring skills.

      To help you with this challenging issue, observe behavior. Behavior is the most honest form of communication. If a trainer has become successful enough that he can pack more people into a room, and make more money from his courses, so he DOES accept more & more people in, that degrades YOUR experience, and improves HIS. Instead, look for the successful trainer who intentionally keeps his class sizes small in spite of the ability to earn more. THAT tells you he values your skills more than he values lining his pocket. VIVE LA DIFFERENCE!

Things to Avoid Like the Plague Include:

• Any training longer than 2 days with more than 30 students. It's fine to take lots of taster trainings with lots of different people. Longer courses -- keep it under 30 -- At ALL costs! If you don't, you're wasting your money. The ONLY EXCEPTION TO THE RULE: Training with either of the two co-founders of NLP - Richard Bandler or John Grinder. Every NLP student should train with these two gifted individuals, at least once.
• Any certification training 7 days or less. What a joke. Great if you want to line the NLP trainer's pockets. Not so great if you're trying to build up serious NLP skill & knowledge.
• Any trainer who sits up on stage apart from his students. Great NLP training requires nonstop feedback loops, where the trainer engages in exercise drills WITH you, giving you feedback to help tune your results. If the NLP trainer isn't down "in the trenches" with you while you're doing exercise drills, then you only paid for "presenting," not "NLP training." Your loss, but by then, of course, it's too late.
