Review of Jonathan Altfeld's 3-Day Skill Builder Event

...those damned sneaky dolphins...

Just the the other day I came out of a clients office, fat check in hand, when I found myself wondering just HOW it came to be. It is a phenomenal experience to be in a flow, peak, or demon state -- where things just seem to work out for no other reason than your congruent decision that they will --- while your friends on the inside take care of the details because they are just too small to worry about any more.

...they just don't leave you alone...

When I took the time, and with my curiosity it wasn't long, to really look deep inside myself to discover just how such seemingly significant changes had taken place...in a time when I wasn't looking or trying to change any more than we always are...the first thing that came to mind were the dolphins.

Not just any dolphins, mind you...these dolphins had a purpose. Rewind to a year ago, and I was sitting in a hotel conference room with Jonathan Altfeld and a group of diverse individuals trying to find something different, new, and exhilerating.

...first they knocked and then I answered...

I had been studying and reading about NLP for a few years then. I had my lingo down, and could amaze my friends with the concepts of human potential I now understood. As a matter of fact, I firmly believe that in those few years I even actually USED NLP once or twice. ;-)

That first day with Jonathan and the group, I felt what it meant integrate what I knew with how I lived and interacted. Our focus was on various methods of gaining and establishing rapport...and while I knew how to mirror, it was all together different when I experienced what it was like to TRULY be in rapport with another. Much more than mimicking gestures or mirroring breathing, we discovered just how powerful true rapport is as we led each other in and out of increasingly pleasurable states.

As I explored and appreciated the subtleties and nuances of pacing and leading, I found myself becoming more and more impressed with how easily Jonathan maintained such a strong rhythm -- that term makes me go **Oooooooooooooh** much more than rapport -- with the group of people who were experiencing the same phenomena I had discovered.

Let your imagination run free, just for a moment, long enough to feel what it would be like to experience a rhythm takes you to places you have never been...in a way that brings to mind the best experiences in your life. That curiosity and excitement, of not quite knowing what will come next, but being fully aware that it will give you only deeper, more exquisite pleasure...

...and when the dolphins started leaping...

The rhythm that had captured our group, at times, seemed to be leading at times... following at others. Jonathan seemed more a part of the party than an MC pulling the strings, yet I am aware that underneath an orchestra was being conducted so synergistic in nature that it took a life of its own.

Have you ever had an experience that you knew was significant, yet couldn't quite fully comprehend it at the time? Or an insight so full of power and vitality that defiantly bubbled just beneath the surface of your waking mind...beckoning you to follow it deeper in with teasing glimpses of pure genius and flowing states.

There were so many moments where I experienced just that. Perhaps that is why I am only now, after over 1 year, writing a review --- if you could call this that --- of the event.

In fact, I'm sure that is why.

...and then they slept...

For a time after my training experience, I was on a high -- I could best identify it as realizing the potential of even the basic things which Jonathan had led us to discover. He had presented the concepts and techniques in a way that I could understand and choose to apply immediately and at any time I chose...but that didn't prepare me for what would come.

Just over two months ago everything just seemed to enter a flow state for me -- it was all easy. When I looked into what had seemingly magically transformed, I found that personality and persuasion skills had markedly improved...as well as a number of issues which had held me back.

The odd thing, was that the significant changes I noticed were based in things I learned in that weekend training with Jonathan Altfeld!

For instance, I noticed that the people I came into contact with would be doing an unbelievable job at gaining rapport with me. They would complement my body posture and actions, match my breathing rate, and act so genuinely enthralled with what I was talking about...it was so easy to communicate in a way that made us both feel great! Then I stepped back for a moment, long enough to realize that *I* was the one who was gaining such a powerful rapport so quickly with these people that I didn't even realize I was doing it on a conscious level.

How was I sure?

Easy! After enough of these -- wow, how did that happen -- experiences, I started to make a concentrated effort to stay completely conscious and aware of what I was doing at these meetings. The first time I was able to do so, I found myself standing face-to-face with my counterpart's shoulder. I mean, this thing was not just an ordinary shoulder...it was as large as his entire body!

What the hell?

...and it turns out they were never sleeping at all...

One of the small -- and in the scope of all we learned it was VERY small -- things that Jonathan taught us was how to easily match another persons breathing rate by watching the rise and fall of their chest and shoulder. I had to try hard -- I mean VERY hard -- to stop myself from laughing out loud as I realized how powerful this small revelation was...the conscious knowledge and understanding that I had gained at Jonathan's training had become an unconscious, natural process!

Needless to say I was fascinated, and my active interest in NLP which had waned in the year before was strongly rekindled.

I began to identify other strategies I was using very effectively that had their root in that little, inexpensive weekend training.

Things like intentionally chunking up in order to motivate a person, group, or manager to take the actions I was -- ummm -- suggesting. Jonathan taught us what I call the Tony technique... (I'll let you discover why...) He explained that everything looks peachy from 20,000 feet up, and that by taking a small action or change and helping the other person or group to discover, in a very specific manner, just how important and life-changing it was in the grand scheme of things...they get excited, motivated, take the action, and feel phenomenal doing so!

Before I proceed, let me make a point. Saying that Jonathan taught us...well...it should be clarified. Our training was done in a very experiential way -- we were led to discover many new things "on our own" through exercises. After the exercise was over, Jonathan would assist us in making sure all the pieces fit, and that we understood what had happened and why.

It is a GREAT way to learn!

Jonathan led me to discover the power of sleight-of-mouth skills, and as my understanding and use increased, arguments, debates, and disagreements seem to end before they start -- unless I'm in an extra playful mood. ;-)

We began to identify and understand things like the effect of the direction your voice is coming from has on a person, how to use your voice and words to excite and motivate another, ways to motivate yourself by choice not chance, how to effectively deal with negative personal feelings, calibration techniques and their relevance, how to win at poker with an internal lie detector (which I have managed to use with success!), leading a person or group into a pleasurable state of trance, how to use the subconscious -- yours and others -- in an intentional and effective way, and much more.

I could spend a great deal of time going over the skills and revelations I took from that training, however, I would suggest that you look to Jonathan's descriptions of what his trainings cover. I can tell you, from experience, that he always delivers more than promised.

...and now we jump and play in new ways all day...

Ahhhhh...yes, I should probably tell you where the dolphins came from! The dolphins were my introduction to nested loops and possibly -- I say possibly because I don't remember -- amnesia! Jonathan began his training with a story about some dolphins, and I had completely forgotten about them until he completed the story at the end of Day 3. Turns out that they were going to bubble beneath the surface -- my surface -- until I was truly ready to play with them.

I suppose some people take longer to come out and play than others.

I never discount the role of individual decision in any success. And as I'm sitting here, looking at that check from the other day that I did not yet deposit, I fully realize that the decision I made to attend Jonathan Altfeld's Skill Builders training was one of the best I've made. I recommend you do the same.

...WE ARE HAPPY...

Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding Jonathan Altfeld the person or his trainings. I would be delighted to offer my personal experiences with Jonathan, so that you will be able to make an informed decision.
